Why This Reference Exists
Wood County information is spread across many desks and collections. The assessor maintains parcel ownership data, while the county clerk keeps recorded instruments and election files. Older Parkersburg volumes survive through Parkersburg and Wood County Public Library, the West Virginia State Archives, WVU, and the Wood County Historical Society. We organize the available search tools, contact routes, known coverage dates, and access rules so readers can identify the right custodian without treating separate records as one master roll.
Material We Organize
- Pages by angle: the street directory (address-keyed records), the city directory (the historical shelf), and the resident lookup (one-person searches)
- Rolls and custodians: assessor, Wood County Clerk, elections office, circuit clerk, state vital records, and the library's genealogy collection
- Research methods: ways to trace an address, interpret a printed directory entry, and follow a household through dated sources
- Access rules: what West Virginia law opens, what remains confidential, and how to request material that is not online
Limits of Our Role
We operate a private reference service. We are not Wood County, a West Virginia agency, a court, a library, or the keeper of any public record. As a result:
- We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Wood County
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot guarantee that every coverage date, link, fee, or office detail remains current
Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
